2 is too many cooks in the kitchen
So we alternate chefs, twice a week we have our main instructor and on tuesdays we have another.
This has been great so far. Both chefs are great teachers for different reasons and the combination of the two makes for a good learning experience.
Lately though we are being taught the same dishes in different ways, what is ok with one of them the other will bash and vice versa.
It's starting to get a little annoying, especially with the midterms coming up.
I know that the safe way is to just do it the way our main guy likes it, and that's kinda what we've been doing.
But still, it sucks when one of them looks at you like you're a raging lunatic because you add things to a sauce in a different order.
And what does it say about classic French cuisine? It seems like nothing is really set in stone, is there more freedom out there than the textbook wants you to believe?
I would actually embrace the fact that recipes and techniques can be handled a little more losely, it would just be nice if the teachers were cool with that too.
