The Big Day
Today is the day!
At 5:45pm today I will have my first class.
Last week at orientation I got a chance to meet my fellow students and was relieved to see that I'm not the oldest. Or the only career changer.
At orientation we were introduced to some of the teachers - still don't know who I will have...
Introductions were made by chef Robert Shapiro whom I know from my other class. We chatted for a while and he then introduced me to chef Hans Soechtig who is from Minden, Germany and has worked in the best restaurants in Bremen, Germany - my hometown! Chef Hans has been in the US for well over 30 years now but when he speaks to you in German he still has that typical "Bremen Twang".
It looks like I will learn under chef Hans during level 3 (which is when we start working for the restaurant).
During orientation we also received our 'Bible", the NYNEX Yellow Pages sized workbook/recipe book. This book only covers the first of four levels and already it has the most amazing recipes and techniques in it.
This is going to be great!
