Of spitting and swallowing...
A surprise lecture on wine tasting was our special treat tonight.
It was just a brief introduction on the technique of properly tasting wines - first thing we learned: you gotta spit!
I didn't. I faked it. Drank most of what was in my glass (which was very little) and gave a little spit into the obligatory paper cup.
Funny thing this whole wine business. It seems like most wine connaisseurs have to analyze every last aspect of the elixir in front of them.
Me, I usually know what I like and what I don't like in a wine. But I could never go on about how one wine's bouquet is superior to the next and why.
But, I guess knowing your wines and how to taste and describe them is very important in this new career I chose.
I will definitely pay more attention to detail next time I get hammered on wine. Oops - see what I mean? I meant of course "next time I enjoy a bottle of wine".
Well, tonight was our last night in family. We made Lasagna as our main dish which we figured was going to be easy. It wasn't.
I to be honest don't even know what it tasted like because I have a bit of a stomach flu and could not even think about eating.
But timing was crucial tonight and we barely made it in time. To blame - besides us - was the pasta which was still frozen when we received it.
Anyway, in the end everybody seemed happy.
I wasn't too happy tonight. The stomach thing put a damper on things and on top of it the tests in Level 2 are insane.
We had one tonight and it was tough, we now have to know recipes by heart. Measurements, procedures, the whole bit.
But, I guess at the end of the day that's kinda what a chef needs to do. Memorize recipes...
